Wall Street Journal add commentary on the newest intro from Hyundai. Watch out car snobs you might mistake this baby in valet. Lots of commentary speaks to the quality of the ride, European lines, iDrive (BMW) knock-off and $15,000.00 savings over a comparable Lexus.  I can tell you that driving it is everything a luxury car should be. The 40k price tag is a welcome relief when one considers all the features that command much more in the competition.  The NHTSA crash tests are five star front and side with videos on You Tube providing visual testimony to the fact that safety is a number one priority in everyone’s mind.

Look at what the who’s who had to say about this car…

Car and Driver: ”The way in which the 2009 Hyundai Genesis handles was much more a subject of controversy. The suspension, according to Car and Driver, “is as sophisticated as they come,” with aluminum components and a four-link front arrangement that helps reduce bump steer. “Our brief driving impression revealed well-controlled drive motions, predictable handling, and an excellent powertrain,”

Many auto industry executives have made similar comments to that of MSN The Driver’s Seat’s Jones, “don’t under-estimate the Korean’s.” While Lexus and Infinit were introduced with the Toyota and Nissan gold standard of quality and reliability, many sniped at the idea a BMW or Mercedes owner would switch, but at 15k savings, switch they did. History can repeat itself, just give it a chance and an economy like ours. Leasing at $399.00 with 2100 down, that is a great start as the Big 3D and BMW pull out of leasing.

Jeff Sabatini of the WSJ says this, “This new luxury sedan is so good at emulating its competition that if the badges were removed it could be mistaken for a Lexus GS460. I’m not saying this just because Hyundai has taken Lexus’s generic and inoffensive styling to a new level. This car has every $50,000 luxury car meme, from a V8 engine that powers the rear wheels, to soft leather on the dashboard and door panels, to an excellent navigation and multimedia system. Throw in a pushbutton starter and the package is complete.”

CarConnection reports: “TheCarConnection.com’s editors share the views of most of our colleagues; if you don’t catch the grille—which looks a bit like those on older Mercedes-Benz models from some angles—the Genesis blends into the crowd. But then again, that probably goes to show that Hyundai has achieved its goal. Its interior, with its rich materials and a design unlike that of Hyundai’s mainstream vehicles, is impressive by any measure. Conclusion: The 2009 Hyundai Genesis might be mistaken on the street—or inside—for a more prestigious luxury brand, but that’s a good thing.

The commentary also includes naysayers who believe that luxury car buyers won’t forsake their need for status and designer labels just to save a few (15k) bucks. I’m betting that smart money, and those who have it, will respond with comments similar to those found on my You Tube video page; “I don’t need a driveway ornament to impress my neighbors” and from those car lovers who appreciate the machine; “I own a Lexus and can’t find a justification for the cost difference between the LS/GS and the Genesis that would make me pay more. Welcome home Genesis.”
